8/1/06 Post Mortem

Sunday was a busy day for me. There was no time for me to post my picks. This post is just to do a post mortem on my picks for Sunday.

Sunday's Picks
1. Inter Milan -1 ** (Lose Full)
2. AS Roma -1/4 * (Win Full)
3. Celta Vigo -1/2 ** (Win Full)
4. Osasuna -3/4 ** (Lose Full)
5. Real Madrid -- * (Draw)
6. Valencia -1/4 ** (Lose Half)
7. AC Milan -1 3/4 ** (Lose Full)
8. Porto -1 ** (Draw)

I did a pretty extensive research on all the teams above and was confident with the 6 two star picks. (Highest most confident would be a three start pick, and not so confident pick/for fun pick would be one star)

Yet I guess the outcome was not what I expected.
1. Inter Milan failed to score given the number of chances they have. In truth they could have at least score 2 goals. Luck was on Siena's side with them escaping with a 0-0 score line.

2. Roma secured a 1-o win over lowly Trevisio. I had not much confident for Roma when they play against teams at the lower bottom of the league. Looking at Roma's stats, you can see that they don't play well against lousy team (most draws and losses). Yet yesterday was a surprising result. Well in truth I chose Roma because I followed an advice from a friend who contributes alot to the research I do. :)

3. Celta Vigo as expected won the match. I don't think I can comment as I did not get the chance to watch the match.

4. Osasuna was a let down as I did not expect them to draw at home against Racing Satander. I learnt my lesson though from this match. I should have calculated the percentage for both of these teams. Its been a while since I included my calculated percentage into my research. Doing my post mortem today, I tried to calculate the percentage of winning for both Osasuna and Racing. The outcome was only a small difference in percentage for both teams. In addition to that, Racing did win against Real Madrid at the Bernebau. Looks like I have overlooked certain factors here and the outcome: A Loss for me.

5. Real Madrid was just a gut feeling pick from me. If you have noticed, their form seems to be returning and a draw game against Villareal away is in fact a good result for both Real Madrid and me. :)

6. Valencia was a let down. I was pretty confident they would win against Ath Madrid. With 19 of Ath Madrid players still recovering from a mysterious illness, Valencia should be able to grab a win here. Yet it turned out to be a disappointing draw for Valencia. It must be just one of those unlucky days for Valencia and me.

7. AC Milan, scoring four goals and conceding 3 against Parma. What have I got to say. Milan with a strong defensive record at home concedes three goals against Parma. I really do wonder if the match already "Kelong". Two goals coming in at the last 10 minutes would be a profitable night for the bookies as most would have Jalan TG under for this game. Leaky defense for Milan should be the main concern in my next research. Perhaps the absense of Stam in that game was the reason Milan conceded 3 goals.

8. I was confident that Porto would win, especially when they are playing at home. Judging from the solid home record, I was never hesitant about choosing Porto when the odds were at -1. I am sure they would win, its just a matter of how many goals. Well the game ended win a 1 nil win for Porto and a draw game for me.

To sum it up, it was not a good nite for me. We all can do research yet the outcome may not always be what we predict. A 2 game lost for me last nite plus some water money. Will take a rest tonite since there a no big matches scheduled tonite.

Will be back again in 2 days time. This time hope that luck together with a research would bring better outcome for me.

Cheers everyone....
